Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick Review with Photos

After seeing so much hype on these "so called" Gerard Cosmetics lipsticks, especially the ones by Jaclyn Hill, I had to try them out for myself. In this post, I'll share with you what I thought of these lipsticks: about their wear time, pigmentation, formula, and whether or not I like the packaging.

So let's just get straight to the point: do I or do I not recommend these lipsticks?

First off, the gold, bullet-shaped lipstick tubes are just classic. Sleek and shiny gold seems pretty timeless, right? I give the packaging an "A."

The colors I bought (which I paid for myself), are both Jaclyn Hill colors, "Buttercup" and "1995," as well as "Cherry Cordial." I actually bought mine from Whitening Lightning, which is an affiliate of Gerard Cosmetics. At the time, they had a 3/$29 sale going on. And in case you didn't know, these lipsticks normally retail at $19 each, so it was basically a steal.

"Buttercup" looks to me like it may be very similar to MAC's "Creme Cup" or "Angel" lipsticks, or much like Maybelline's "Born With It" lipstick. It is a light, neutral pink that flatters most all skin tones.  Of course, being designed by Jaclyn Hill ensures it will be a pretty shade!

"Cherry Cordial" is a deep, berry red. It's very rich and beautiful for this fall/winter weather we are running into this time of year.  It is pretty universal if you ask me. I tend to lean more toward wines, purples, and berries to go with my hazel eyes.

Suggestions for other berry and wine colored lipsticks I love are:
  • MAC "Rebel"
  • MAC "Riri Heaux" (limited edition, unfortunately)
  • Revlon "Black Cherry"
  • Maybelline "Blissful Berry"
  • Revlon Matte Balm Stain in "Shameless"
  • Lime Crime "Poisonberry"
And lastly, the color on the far right is the recently made famous "1995," which has spurned an uprising as of late in the beauty community. Jaclyn Hill specifically designed this color to mimic the grunge age of the 90's and the ever present image of Kylie Jenner and her bold, mauve lip. The color flatters EVERYONE. And the best part of it? It looks different on every skin tone.

I did, however, find a somewhat similar dupe to "1995" in the color "Touch of Spice" by Maybelline. While the shade is a tad more pink toned than the muted, mauve-nude shade by Jaclyn, it offers a similar neutral and almost matte finish. Really, both colors are not unlike some peoples' natural lip colors.

I will be posting lip applications of these colors and any dupes mentioned in my next post.

So, for pigmentation, I give these colors an "A" as well.

Now on to the formula, which many people never complained about in their video reviews/blogs, but to me, it's the one major downfall of the formula in all three of the lipsticks. While boasting a Matte formula, the lipsticks seem pretty dry to me. I try to keep my lips from peeling and chapping or cracking in the winter, but these lipsticks did not feel smooth at all on my lips. It almost felt like I had an old dried out Chapstick brand chapstick that feels a tad waxy and not smooth. Maybe it's because it's a Matte finish, so it's not as moisturizing. I would speculate that to be the reason. I'd honestly give the formula and moisturizing qualities of these lipsticks a "C."

I wouldn't say I'd never purchase these lipsticks again, because I do like them. But truthfully, I'd probably never pay full price for them. If I ever do run out of one, I'll wait until they offer another sale like the one I bought them in to begin with.

I hope this helps you all decide whether or not you might want to purchase them yourself. Don't let me make your mind up for you, though. I'm just a girl on a mission to share with you my honest opinion on all beauty products. What seems like a shortcoming to me may very well seem like a positive item quality to you.

xx
