Simple, Everyday Eye Using the Naked Smoky

As I mentioned in my last post using the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette ($54), I wanted to do a few different looks to meet a variety of needs/interests.

I started off with a smokier look that one might wear more for night time, and today's post is a much more versatile day-time type look.

I didn't take photos filling in my brows, applying my primer, or applying a light, all-over dusting of the white shadow "Thirteen" from the palette.

I like to always set my primer with a pale neutral shade (preferably white for my currently pale skin tone), because I feel that it minimizes the tackiness that is often par for the course with primer. If you don't set it, then it's likely you're going to have problems blending out the shadows you put down on the lid first. They basically stick to the base/primer and refuse to blend.

So, just keep that in mind!

1. So for number one (above), I basically just applied the shade "Combust" to my crease area. This shade is acting as our transition. For fairer skin tones, "Combust" is the only possibl transition shade in the palette.
2. Next, I applied the taupe-y silver Eyeko Fat Eye Stick "Satin" all over the main part of my lid. This is completely optional, but I just wanted something with a little pigmentation to pat my shadow onto and intensify the shimmer effect.
3. I then sprayed my MAC Fix+ onto my brush with the shade "High"and patted that all over the inner half of my lid. I did a few layers of this shadow until I got the pigmentation I was looking for.
4. After that, I flipped the same brush over and sprayed the Fix+ on my brush again and patted the shade "Armor" on the other (outer) half of my lid.

**For those of you who might not know, the Fix+ just dampens the brush and the shadow and makes the shadow appear much more metallic and pigmented. If you DO NOT have the Fix+, you can spray water, or any setting or priming sprays on your brush instead. It will work exactly the same. **
5. I then deepened up the outer corner with the shade "Password" and then "Dagger" until I got my desired depth.
6. Because this was more of a daytime look, I didn't want to smoke out the bottom lash line too much. So instead, I used that same shade "High" and applied it all across the bottom lash line.
  • The one thing I don't like about a few of the more shimmery shades in UD palettes is their fallout. This shadow has a ton of glitter fallout if you're not careful. So I sprayed the Fix+ on my brush to apply the shadow across the bottom lash line, too, just to ensure I got the right amount of color payoff rather than the fallout.
7. Lastly, I applied a black liner on my tight line (the top of my lid) to deepen up the natural rim of my eye. And I also applied the Pacifica Natural Eye Pencil in "Gunmetal" to the water line, which basically just went with the silvery shadows used in this look.

To complete the look, I applied two coats of my favorite mascara. You can use whatever it is that you like to use!
I hope you all enjoyed this one! I think it's something that more people could get wear from because it is so neutral and "barely there." And I do realize some people live by the "less is more" mantra.

Let me know if you have any questions, any suggestions or want to leave feedback in the comments! I appreciate your support.

I think I'll do one more look using the Naked Smoky. I'm thinking it will be something warmer using the gold/bronze/brown shades.

  1. Those beautiful hazel eyes help bring out any color you use. xo
