So, I meant to have this post up over the weekend, but I was so overwhelmed Saturday with my prom clients, and after spending over six hours doing makeup on Saturday, Sunday I felt like a "good for nothing" and wasted the day away.
I figured I might as well get this review up before I start spring cleaning my room, which I dislike doing. But as I am about to paint my room, get a new comforter and basically give it a makeover, I need to clear some stuff out of there, or risk hoarder status.
As I 'm sure you can already make out, this review is going to be on the new Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette, which I purchased several weeks back with the VIB 15% discount from Sephora. The palette retails for $46, which is a steal considering how much product you get. And surprisingly, this was my first Kat Von D eyeshadow palette.
Now, first things first, I LOVE the packaging. I think it's cool with the Gothic vibe and the bold gold lettering. If you'll notice, I tried to imitate it with the stamps on my photos. Also, even though the palette is standard cardboard material, it feels pretty heavy duty, which I like.

I am a little confused on why they picked the colors they did for the top three shades when it looks like the highlight shades are the smaller ones down below. You could maybe use the first shadow on the top "Laetus" as a highlight shade, but not the second two.
If I had to choose one of the sets of shadows, I'd pick the third column. I just have a thing for warm, clay browns. I think it's because they tend to go really well with my hazel eyes.
And my favorite shade in the palette is "Succubus," which reminds me a lot of the orange clay that used to coat the banks of the lake I spent many summers at as a child.

I tried to get some good swatches for you all, but some of the lighter toned shades were harder to get good pigmentation on my already pale skin. Maybe if I had super tan skin like my friend Sasha, then you'd be able to see the lighter shades better.
Totally off topic, but I miss being tan! And sometimes, I just ponder on how all the good food, nice things like tan skin or even eating lemons (when the citric acid eats away at your teeth's enamel), have to be damaging or life threatening to us. Many of us like healthy foods, but would much rather eat fattening, sugary or greasy foods, but it will only kill us faster. It's just not fair! haha.
Anyways, here are your photos with and without flash. I am also really liking the pale peachy shade "Ludwin." As I said, I'd choose the last column of shadows.
I really like the quality and shade range in this palette. And considering Kat Von D calls it an "Eye Contour Palette," I think the color range is great because you do have your lighter shades and then the shades you might would use to "contour" the eye by further defining the crease.
Would I purchase another Kat Von D palette? Yes! Including another contour palette, because I do love my Shade + Light Contour Palette, which I thought I did a review on but didn't. I'll make a plan to get that one up next, though!
Do I feel like it was worth the price? Yes, because you get quite a bit of product for the price. I've seen other companies sell less product for so much more.
What grade would I give this palette? An A+ for sure. The quality, pigmentation, packaging and color range are all really great.
