Aside from the obvious that I am reviewing two of the products from MAC's anticipated Cinderella Collection, I am mostly excited to share how great the photos of them are!
As most of you know, the l.e. collections MAC puts out like this usually sell out in record time. I even had to purchase the "Royal Ball" lipstick from eBay after it was stolen out of my cart while still browsing the MAC website. I'm happy I got my hands on these two items that I wanted the most.
Without further ado, let's get to it before midnight comes..,
I'd like to point out how much I ADORE the packaging. It's perfect Cinderella replication in beauty product form, with the light cornflower blue packaging with slight iridescence. I'm such a hoarder that I don't even want to throw the blue and gold boxes they came in away.
While sometimes it can be hard to see the details of the packaging or the sparkles in a lipstick on camera, I'm glad I was able to get a picture of the casing so you can see the purple-ish holographic tint it has. I wish I'd been like Youtube Gurus, MakeupbyTiffanyD or xSparkage, who were able to get about 90% of the collection sent to them for review. I'd loved to have had more of the collection.
Below is my all-time favorite photo because you can see just how beautiful these two items are upon first glance. Now that I've bragged on the casing, I'll tell you I managed to snag the Cinderella Beauty Powder in "Mystery Princess" and the Lustre lipstick called "Royal Ball."
I was a bit disappointed in the pigmentation of the beauty powder. After watching the videos of the gurus mentioned above, I'd concluded that it might be a good highlighter shade in cute packaging. I was wrong. It doesn't even show up on my pale, winter skin tone. To give you an idea on just how fair I am this winter, my natural/non-tanned skin is an NC15 right now. To me, the product is pretty lacking when it hardly shows up on my overly chalky skin.
The powder also didn't seem very soft like perhaps the Mineralized Skin Finish products are. It's a harder powder and doesn't have much give or powdery texture when I run my finger across it repeatedly.
"Royal Ball" is a good lipstick for a natural makeup look, and is something that Cinderella may have worn to her big ball. In the cartoon, on the Barbies and in the new movie, her makeup is a bit more on the natural side. There's the typical princess look: fair, smooth skin with peachy pink lips.
While I do think this lipstick is very compatible for work, school and basically any other everyday event, the Lustre finish in it makes it a bit more sheer than I would have liked. I think I'd been happier with a Cremesheen finish such as "Creme Cup."
If I were asked whether or not I'd recommend these products to a friend, I'd probably say "no" just because I wasn't completely satisfied. I have a growing MAC stash in my makeup collection, and plenty of those products have preceded these in quality. I hope some of you had a better result, or chose possibly a different product from the collection that you like more!
I have already uploaded photos into draft pages for my next few posts, so hopefully I'll have posted at least three new ones by the end of this week. I look forward to nurturing my presence and expanding my helpfulness to my fellow makeup addicts.
xx
