Make Hazel Eyes POP

My mom's eyes are often hidden by her glasses, so I wanted to do something to really make them POP!

I got my hazel eyes from her, but hers are a little brighter than mine, which I am only slightly envious of.

Since this look was done strictly for the benefit of my blog, and well, because my mom wanted me to do her makeup, I basically had free reign over her face. The lipstick I used on her is actually a bit lighter than what she usually wears, but it just ended up going so well with her eye color.

What I came up with is basically a red clay colored eye with a minimal shimmer shadow on the lid. Sometimes shimmer can seem a bit much on more mature clients, so it often helps to tone it down. No, I am not saying that mature clients should never wear glitter or shimmery shadows; just that depending on the type of look you're going for, less glitter/shimmer can seem much more sophisticated.
We also have the same hair shade, so I was able to use my favorite brow pencil to further define her brows a bit and enlarge the appearance of the lid space. I didn't want to fill them in too harshly for fear that it would look unnatural, so I settled for only a slight enhancement to make them show up better on the face.

Filling in the brows on anyone is going to really open up the eye and add an overall polished look to the finished makeup.

I look back at some of my old photos (before my brow-filling days) and wonder how I could have ever survived without it! We all have those things in our makeup routine we couldn't skip out on.

And brows and mascara are mine.

I knew she wouldn't really be into false lashes, so I used two coats of mascara instead. It didn't lengthen them much because they've gotten short and fine over the years, but I think the overall eye look still turned out well with the way that I smoked out the upper and bottom lash lines.

I actually used a brown liner on the top lash line, but then went over it with the clay shade and smudged it out. The orange smoky effect really brightened up the green of her eyes.

In this last photo, you can see even with her glasses that the eyes are really vibrant. I just love how it turned out!

I wish I'd done a "before" photo, but normally her brows aren't shaped up very well because she doesn't normally fill them in anymore. But you can also see that even with her glasses on that the brows just really frame her eyes and face well. It is my belief that brows really set the whole face into perspective. I don't really know how else to say it. But there's a place for everything on our faces, and when our brows are on fleek, then everything seems to stand out and look so much more proportional.

I was one of those poor lasses who more or less butchered her brows as a teenager. In the late nineties, early millennia years, thin and over-plucked brows were an actual thing, believe it or not. Many of you probably remember it well. But now, bolder and more natural, thicker brows are a thing.

I think they're actually on to something. Regardless of what's trending next year, I plan to keep my brows as is.
