Everyone has some sort of signature makeup look they repeat over and over.
And everyone loves to rock a smoky eye every now and again, especially for a special night out or a glam event.
But not everyone knows how to create the perfect smoky eye, or how to find which type of smoky eye best complements their eye color, shape and size.
And although I like to do a black smoky eye from time-to-time, I prefer this brown look I am about to show you. It makes the green in my eyes really stand out, leaves my small eyes open enough so that they won't look too squinty, and just really looks great for anytime, day or night. I do mostly wear it more for a night out on the town or a date, but it's one of my all time favorite eye looks. And even though it is my favorite signature look, I decided to stop being selfish and share it with all of you lovely readers and supporters out there!
Without further ado, let's get started!
1. For step one above, I have already filled in my brows (I may do a brow tutorial for the blog soon) primed my lid, and set my primer with a white shadow. So the first step is to apply a transition shade. I chose to use the shade "Creme Brulee" from Makeup Geek ($5.99).
2. Next, I applied the Maybelline Color Tattoo in "Chocolate Suede" ($5.39) all over my lid to get better base pigmentation for the shadow I planned to apply next.
3. I then packed on my favorite shadow, NARS "Galapagos" ($25), all over that color tattoo base on the lid.
4. To soften up and blend the lid shade into the crease, I used a combination of the Coastal Scents hot pot shades "Oktoberfest" and "Burnt Umber" ($1.99 each).
5. I then smudged those same Coastal Scents shades from the previous step underneath my eye to give that desired smoked out effect.
- I made sure to concentrate the "Burnt Umber" shade on the outer third of my eye, so it was lighter towards the inner portion of my eye.
6. For this last major step, I used a super dark black pen liner to wing my eyes. I also applied one coat of my favorite Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($22).
- I did a pretty thick and bold wing, because this is a smoky look and should be a little heavier than most daily wear makeup.
7. Lastly, I applied my Kiss "Flirty" lashes ($3.99), which basically pulled the whole look together.
And there it is, the finished look! It really brings out the color in my usually very "standard" hazel eyes.
I may do a black smoky look next, because I know those are harder for a lot of people in terms of blending. I see so many girls doing those big blocks of black shadow on their lids. And a lot of people just don't realize how much time it takes to get right, but also aren't sure how to do it right, or even what techniques they should use to get the desired look. My only intention is to share what I've learned and taught myself over the years, so maybe it'll help you and allow me to do something I love!
