NYX Butter Gloss Haul & Review

I started out with the NYX Butter Gloss in "Apple Strudel" (seen on the far left in the photo below), because I'd received it in an Ipsy bag.  That was the only butter gloss I owned, and I speculated at first that it might not even go well with my skin tone. I usually can't wear coral or orangey colors.

I was pleasantly surprised, though, when I realized it was a muted peachy pink color with a bit of a sheer finish and a whole lot of shine.

On Saturday when I went to Ulta, I picked up three more of them, because I LOVE the formula. They are thick and silky feeling on the lips without feeling sticky like many thicker formula glosses. I give the formula an A, because I can definitely see where they got the "butter" in Butter Gloss from.

They also smell good. Not like vanilla, but something fruity, which is a plus, too. I don't know about y'all, but I hate lipsticks and glosses that taste and smell chemical-ish. The fruity smell isn't cheap smelling, but refreshing and much unlike those glitter glosses and Lip Smackers products we had growing up.

I also like the pigmentation. The colors (as you'll see in my photos below) have a tad bit of sheerness to them, but give off enough color that you could wear them alone for a more subtle glossy look, or wear them on top of a lipstick for a glossier appearance to the lips. In the photos I've applied them alone, so you can see what they look like if applied by themselves.

Two of the colors, "Creme Brûlée" and "Tiramisu," I was disappointed looked so similar on my lips.

  • Apple Strudel is a peachy-pink that gives a hint of color to your lips and covers up the natural lip color. It would be great paired with a nude lipstick, or even a coral or orange-red.  Since it is more peachy with a tiny bit of pink undertones, I have actually put it over top of a light pink lipstick before as well. It's pretty versatile.
  • Creme Brûlée is the sheerest of them all, and is a nude gloss. It is often paired with nudes/nude pinks/light brown lipstick and lip liner shades. It would add a nice highlight to nude ombre lips.
  • Cupcake is a beautiful hot pink shade (and pink is my all time favorite color), so it is one of my favorites! It is the most pigmented of the four Butter Glosses I own. I think this color is very build-able, so you can make it look like it is a solid pink on the lips. It would look awesome with a hot pink underneath it to make it even more vibrant.
  • Tiramisu is very close to my natural lip color in person. If it were more solid and didn't have a partially sheer finish, then it would be basically the same color as my lips. It is a reddish-toned neutral shade that will look really good on any neutral lipstick.
    • I think it would look great with colors like "Touch of Spice" from Maybelline, or "1995" By Gerard Cosmetics.

As time goes on, I plan to expand my Butter Gloss collection. These glosses are a steal at $4.99 if you buy them from Ulta, and are currently listed at $3.00 on NYX's website: www.nyxcosmetics.com.

Let me know what you all think of these: if you like them/love them/or hate them. I'd love to hear others' opinions on the products I post about.

For affordability, formula, pigmentation, scent, consistency, and color range, I am giving this product an A.
