Being a "newbie" with Lime Crime products, I assumed it was just a company with products that were completely and totally unwearable for work or school. I would see gurus on YouTube using their lipsticks for wild makeup tutorials, Halloween makeup, or lookalike inspired videos in their little purple unicorn tubes. It just never really appealed to me, or even occurred to me to look further into the company's products.
A while back I "liked" the company and Doe Deere on Facebook because she seemed so magical. Wanting to branch out and experiment with new colors and products, I happened to see the sneak peek swatches of "Venus: The Grunge Palette" popping up on the company's and Doe's Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Naturally, I fell in love with this palette at first site. It is so different!!
What really drew my attention were the variety of orange and maroon-hued shades, which I knew would go really well with my hazel eyes. These type of warm-toned colors just make green eyes or the greens in blue-green or hazel eyes-- POP. And while I don't have anything against brown eyes, I am always looking for ways to show off my eye color for what it truly is.
Here is the front of the Lime Crime palette. It's uniquely decorated, and the hair on the Greek Goddess, Venus, is ironically blue like Doe Deere's. I usually like different, so I am partial to this packaging.
There's also nothing special about the palette packaging material. It has a magnetic closure on top much like most other palettes, and the palette is made of a paper material like many others as well.
Luckily, it comes with the lid mirror. I don't like palettes as well when the company leaves out the mirror. Sometime we can't always be in front of a bathroom mirror or vanity, so I prefer palettes that come with them built in. That also makes it more suitable for travel or touch-ups.

And what I really love with this palette is the pigmentation. The colors are so rich and smooth. I admit to being a bit disappointed at not ever having tried any of the previous palettes Doe Deere created before they were discontinued.
But overall, I am very happy with I snagged this one. I do believe it might be part of her permanent line as well, so if you'd like to purchase one of these you can do so at any time.

I also like that while these colors step outside the usual neutral shadow mold, that they all go so well together and lend endless combination possibilities. And when applied to the skin, they are not as bright and wild as they seem in the pan, so you can see by these watches that they are indeed very wearable.

With Jaclyn Hill's "1995" lipstick not only mimicking Kylie Jenner's unique lip combination, but also sending us into a time travel back to the 90's, it makes me wonder if that is not going to be an even bigger trend with makeup companies within the coming year.
I guess we'll just have to stay tuned! It would seem that with flannel and plaid and 90's inspired beauty products, somebody is missing the past. And since I was wallowing in my youth through the 90's, I am actually cool with reliving it and seeing what I missed out on the first time.
What do you all think? Did you like that decade? Do you think it's cool that 90's inspired makeup is being resurrected and suddenly trending? I'd love to know your ideas and thoughts!
xx
